What is Traditional Indian Head Massage?
Indian Head Massage has been an integral part of Indian family life for thousands of years.
It has a noble lineage as it is a part of the ancient Ayurvedic healing system.
The techniques used in IHM for maintaining health and wellness has been handed down
over the generations. Renowned as an antidote for stress, it is a safe, simple,
non-invasive yet effective clothed therapy. The treatment includes massage and
manipulation of the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face.
Amarjeet Bhamra, the head of the Institute of Indian Head Massage, has specifically
designed this course to be a sequence that can be easily learnt, but is still a powerful
therapy. Amarjeet is a renowned Ayurvedic bodywork practitioner and
is a leading exponent and dedicated master of Traditional Indian Head
This certificate course is fully accredited by the
of Indian Head Massage. This allows successful students to obtain insurance
and practise professionally should they wish. No previous training or qualifications are required
to take this course.
Course Structure and Content
The course takes place over three days plus one day for the exam and assessment.
There will be about month's gap between the weekends to enable you to complete
the case studies and assignments. The course covers the teaching of the IHM
sequence and includes sessions covering:
- Overview on Ayurveda
- IHM history and development
- Consultation and massage procedure
- Therapist/client care and ethics
- Marma points
- Preparation, protection and meditation
- Post-treatment advice
- Anatomy & physiology
